Nice one! I was going to try a negative mass car after Meh's posts but got distracted when my normal ones made a couple of improvements.

If you like I can try some of my tweaking techniques on yours. (And if you don't I won't.) I think the main things to try are the wheel size and possibly orientation - once you get sufficiently negative mass the torque is constant no matter how negative you make it so you're really looking for some way to make it go faster.

I used Weirdal21's car to create a map of the next 100+ points past my current best:

If I can get out of the current trap, I might be able to get a fair way into this section...

By all means tweak what you can. I've tried wheel size but going larger to go faster prevents it from climbing or getting oddly stuck. I've also tried different wheel axis position and no more luck than what I have now. So if you can get it to go further let me know and what you did to do so.

Some progress with Wierdal21's negative mass car. This one:

Code: Select all
eNqzf2Co9rLiyj/7z9YpUTJrOOxXzgSBWfbH38/dpMsXBuefj9H4eqg/Bs7fCaVh/Iud5t7Hln8gVr8DBwMMsDswSZS3RHH/tb91oFkob3I3UIzJgW+1lW+sXqn910kLtxUbGwPFmB1YTF3ZNGo17W9/jf8E08vBUGx53TfG/rOtqaHOmbP/gcCBN1Czdsarx/afvky8M9nYGCwmHNHjpp9Sa//lDOP+BAYGsJhQ/9XTCfc+2H/TesU6GWwHq4NgYzbbGz8P+72Zi3nS0tIZ2FUqGP5MY8CL7/C34MQMDIwABp2X0Q==

reaches 1432.6. The wheel is a little bit larger, although I found a few cars that did better than the original with slightly smaller wheels too. So far no attempt to tweak wheel axis has resulted in any improvement over the original.

Given the rate at which improvements have been found, I would hazard a guess that even better cars can be found, but I have no idea whether improvements will be good enough to reach the end of the track in time.

Here's the extended track map:

Weirdal21's negative mass car suitable tweaked finishes The Hills with 5s to spare :D

Code: Select all
eNqzf2Co9rLiyj/7z9YpUTJrOOxXzgSBWfbH38/dpMsXBuefj9H4eqg/Bs7fCaVh/Iud5t7Hln8gVr8DBwMMsDswSZS3RHH/tb/HIjG5ZEcGUIzJgW+1lW+sXqn910kLtxUbGwPFmB1YTF3ZNGo17W9/jf8E08vBUGx53TfG/rOtqaHOmbP/gcCBN1Czdsarx/afvky8M9nYGCwmHNHjpp9Sa//lDOP+BAYGsJhQ/9XTCfc+2H/TesU6GWwHq4NgYzbbGz8P+72Zi3nS0tIZ2FUqGP5MY8CL7/C34MQMDIwAhUiXNw==

The wheel radius is a little larger now (by approximately 0.075), but other radiuses quite close to this car's value do not finish the course so you have to fish for one that actually works.

I'll extend my map of the course to the end when I get a chance.

By the way, how did you create the map?
Stitch it from screenshots and downscale?
I want to create the complete map for the peak but I'd need some 50..100 photos to do this.

Yes, plus a bit of erasing unwanted bits. Ryan should write a map generator for each course ;-)

Made it out of the 1269 pit!...

Should be able to make a decent score improvement in the 20+s remaining if I can get out of that one, but time is starting to run out because this car spends a lot of time earlier in the course.

Nice! Now if only your non negative mass car can get it done. It's getting close though :)

Probably going to mess with the negative mass cars on some other tracks too.

And just when I'd pretty much given up hope of getting any further:

:D :D :D

This one seems to have a bit more juice early on than my 1335, so it reaches this point with even more time to go (26s)! If I can find a car that gets out of this trap without losing too much time, I reckon there's a decent shot at finishing the course...less than 90 points to go!
