The Gap

New physics, old cars don't work ;-)

I was away from the v3.1 release until this evening. Before I went away I found a car in about 30 minutes (some design/tweaks, some GA) that finished the course (14s). v3.0 had the timing bug so just running GA while I was away didn't help, but it's now down to 13s after a few dozen generations of v3.1 GA.

Not sure if anyone will equal v2.2's best times yet, but my BoxCar2D intuition is often very wrong!

Using ReTort as a seed for PSO ran for 184 generations now but had something close in less than 80

I get a strange looking car that doesn't go anywhere for that last post. Maybe its an architecture issue. Have you tried re-pasting it?

Hmmmmm yes me too...not sure what happened there. I posted it in a new window to make sure it worked and verify the time before i pasted it here...sadly i didn't save it because i thought it was on here.

Just seeded a PSO with the best car from V2 and let it run for a while so you should be able to get something similar.

I worked like an ass to design a nice four wheeler to reach 13 seconds. Then I again made the humbling decision and gave Evolution a chance. Immediately evolution ripped off the fourth wheel I thought was absolutely necessary and doing so destroyed the level record and my self-esteem in about ten generations.

Went back to my 13s car and (probably with different parameters/random cars) it also evolved to 12s :-) - and this time fairly quickly. The previous evolution attempt on it didn't improve it after a long time.

Not sure if we'll see anyone hit 11s - would be good on this track to have 100ths of a second displayed so that we could see if there's any incremental improvement.

New design, now using only three wheels, does it in 11s :D

10s is looking rather unlikely to me at the moment...but I've been wrong before.

I think a 2 wheeled car might be able to better this, I have one that can do it in 13s but shows a lot more room for improvement

I ran my "11s" car through the AI Challenge simulator which can provide higher precision scoring details, and it's only just under 12s (by about two time steps) - so it needs almost an entire second of improvement before the regular simulator calls it "10s".

I'd like to see a fast 2-wheeler - I thought about trying for one a month or so ago but focused on other things instead.
